Community acts of kindness are an absolutely vital aspect of War Week and speak volumes to the city of Highland Park. So much so, the Mayor and City Council recognize the consistent initiative to serve and have expressed appreciation for the acts of kindness demonstrated by War Week students.

In past years, students have focused clean-up efforts on community playgrounds, vacant houses, lots and alleys. This is one way that students can truly serve the community and demonstrate the humilty and love of Christ in a practical, tangible way that really connects with people.

Door-to-door evangelism, students say, is one of the most vital aspects of service during WarWeek. Students set out in teams to meet community members on their doorstep. Students mainly ask for prayer requests, pray with the community members and offer encouragement if led.

War Week typically culminates with an evening street rally open to the Detroit community. Children are attracted to the giant, inflatable jungle gyms. games and clowns, while the adults and young adults enjoy a special performance by a featured musical guest. Also, driving home the rally’s real purpose, Tim Dilena will preach a message targeting the adults and young adults that join us from the streets of Detroit.

Children’s crusades are another essential element of War Week. Student leaders prepare games, giveaways, competitions and skits for the children that pour into the church. The children are organized into teams and are actively engaged all afternoon in exciting activities, all the while experiencing God’s unconditional love through the students, student leaders and messages.
